چکیده

We consider the problem of link scheduling for throughput maximization in multihop wireless networks. Majority of previous methods are restricted to graph-based interference models. In this paper we study the link scheduling problem using a more realistic physical interference model. Through some key observations about this model, we develop efficient link scheduling algorithms by exploiting the intrinsic connections between the physical interference model and the graph-based interference model. For one variant of the problem where each node can dynamically adjust its transmission power, we design a scheduling method with O(g(E)) approximation to the optimal throughput capacity where g(E) denotes link diversity. For the other variant where each node has a fixed but possible different transmission powers for different nodes, we design a method with O(g(E))-approximation ratio when the transmission powers of all nodes are within a constant factor of each other, and in general with an approximation ratio of O(g(E) log ρ) where log ρ is power diversity. We further prove that our algorithm for fixed transmission power case retains O(g(E)) approximation for any length-monotone, sub-linear fixed power setting. Furthermore, all these approximation factors are independent of network size.

Joint MAC Scheduling and Network Coding: From Wired Networks to Realistic Wireless Networks

In this work, we explore different aspects and steps of building a joint network coding and scheduling solution for wireless multihop networks. Network coding allows transmission networks to combine data at intermediate network nodes. In contrast to routing, where nodes only relay and replicate data in network nodes, network coding provides an opportunity to improve a performance measure of int...

Cross-Layer Design for End-to-End Throughput Maximization and Fairness in MIMO Multihop Wireless Networks

MIMO links can significantly improve network throughput by supporting multiple concurrent data streams between a pair of nodes and suppressing wireless interference. In this paper, we study joint rate control, routing, and scheduling in MIMO-based multihop wireless networks, which are traditionally known as transport layer, network layer, and MAC layer issues, respectively. Our aim is to find a...

We analyze the class of Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA)policies for scheduling packet transmissions in multihop wireless networks withprimary interference constraints. Our main result is to establish that, in an ap-propriate limiting regime of large networks with a small sensing period, CSMApolicies are capacity-achieving. While such efficiency characteristics of CSMApo...

Minimum Delay Routing in Multihop Wireless Networks

End-to-end delay is an important QoS metric in multihop wireless networks such as sensor networks and mesh networks. Along with throughput, end-to-end delay determines the user-experienced data transmission time. End-to-end delay refers to the total time it takes for a single packet to reach the destination. It is a result of many factors including the length of the route and the interference l...
